Why do you track Pacific storms?

This is a good app when there is an active hurricane season and storms are within our "Cone of Uncertainty". I find it very helpful then.
However, I am perplexed by the fact that they even bother with Pacific Hurricanes. I have, on occasion, opened the app to find a named storm and begin to go into panic mode, only to then realize it is on the other side of the country. It is completely irrelevant. That would be like tracking Cyclones in Thailand on the app.
